Tips for Creating a Successful Marketing Plan

By Vito La Fata

If you own your own fitness business, you may be interested in bringing in more revenue with a better marketing plan. Do you even have one? Are you equipped with the resources to make one? If you do not have one or do not know how to make one, you are not alone. Lots of fitness business owners do not have one.

I am going to help you with your marketing plan by sharing with you some of the things that I coach my business clients with. It will help you as you begin laying out your marketing for the entire year. The main thing to keep in mind is that you need to change your mindset. You see, in order to be profitable, you must get past the idea that you want an easy sale. Rather, concentrate on the relationships that you build.

In order for your clients to trust you requires patience on your part. Big gyms are not able to do this as well. But as a small business owner, you can easily do this. So starting today, focus your efforts on getting to know your clients and selling them smaller packages at the beginning so that they can get to know you better.

Another thing to keep in mind is that clients need easy ways to understand the science, behavior modification and health tips that will help them to transform themselves into fit people. However, as fitness professionals, we have to be careful with the "Curse of Knowledge."

The curse of knowledge refers to large amount of information that you have learned as a fitness professional. As a trainer, you have a lot of knowledge. You've been studying health and fitness for a long time and you know a lot. This knowledge is part of who you are and it is not difficult for you.

Well, when the average person faces something new and is bombarded with knowledge, it goes in one ear and out the other. But we want it to "stick." We want them to remember and follow all the steps that will make things better. So we need to be sure to present the information in easy to understand terms to them.
